FUTAOKI / Bamboo Lid Rest
In Chanoyu/the Japanese Way of Tea, the bamboo lid rest holds the lid of the iron kettle. Care should be given to keep bamboo items in a humidified environment. Dry, heated areas can cause bamboo to split. Storing in a humidor is also helpful: place the bamboo piece in a container with a loose-fitting lid and add a damp sponge in a jar with some water; check periodically to ensure that sponge is damp. Make sure lid allows air circulation to prevent mold.
